Our Pioneer Heritage, Vol. 17, p.150 Tucker: A railroad loading point. Settled in 1883 and named for James Tucker. Our Pioneer Heritage, Vol. 12, p.173 During the winter of 1868 a shoe shop and tannery was established with the following officers: Robert Hogg, president; Charles Turner, vice-president; directors; W. G. Smith, Richard Fry and James Tucker, James R. Stuart, D. L Ross and Fred Kingston were employed as shoemakers and cobblers. The tannery failed because material could be imported cheaper than it [p.174] could be prepared in Morgan. As the Weber River bridge had been washed out during the spring of 1869, Mr. Stuart was compelled to wade across every day during the following winter to carry on his position in the shoe shop. The shoe company subsequently became a part of the Z.C.M.I., which firm assumed its liabilities and continued the work with James Tucker as manager. Later, Mr. Tucker bought the shop and continued business with James R. Stuart and James T. Worlton as shoemakers. James Tucker (Shoemaker) and Betsy Valate Lerwill were married on 27 May 1860 in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska. I have a document filled out by James that says he was married in 1860 in Omaha Nebraska! I got it from the Church Archives, and the form is for the Archives of the genealogical Society of Utah. It is in Jame's own handwritng!! Family records say he was married 27 May 1860 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. But based on the Wagon Train records, and the info above, it looks more like he was married in Omaha, Nebraska--just two weeks before departing for the West. [S31] 1910 US Census.
