Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Langstroth, Alice was born 28 Jan 1824, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; was christened 22 Feb 1824, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng. (daughter of Langstroth, Stephen and Gill, Ann); died 21 Nov 1909, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; was buried Nov 1909.

    Notes:

!Alice was endowed in NV as Alice Whitaker but no NV slg was found. Her husb
Moses Whitaker died in Salt Lake in 1852. On 11 Dec 1853 (pre)EH she was
sld for T&E to Moses Whitaker (d.) and to George Darling Watt for time only.
This occurred during Willard Richards life time. In view of the above, the
Temple Department (SIS) ruled by letter 23 Apr 1986 (Jerry D. Wells) that
the 23 Dec 1845 alleged "marriage" to Willard Richards (per his Journal) was
a moot question and therfore did not justify a ruling. Even if it were to be
determined that their covenant was a sealing for eternity, we would have
to presume it was cancelled prior to her sealing to Moses Whitaker. Because
there were no children whose covenant lines would be affected, the question
is purely academic so we shall not investigate it further. (The above had been
questioned since DIALOGUE,Spring 1985, p55 had quoted the event from Willard
Richards Journal and INTIMATE DISCIPLE p482 mentions his "expectation" to marry
Alice). In any event there appears to have been other considerations and Alice
proudly bore the name of Alice Longstroth Whitaker throughout her life time.
We don't know of any children of her own, but Alice raised her sister Sarah's,
Pauline after Sarah's 1858 death. (Her sister, Nanny raised the other three).
George D. Watt was the first man to be baptized in England (1837) having won
the race to the Rible River. His marriage to Alice is acknowledged in the
Longstroth Letters (on file at the USHS - Utah State Historical Society).

  1. 2.  Langstroth, Stephen was born 29 Jun 1789, Langcliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; was christened 19 Jul 1789, Giggleswick, Yorkshire, Eng.; died 4 Feb 1861, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; was buried 6 Feb 1861, City Cem., Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.

    Notes:

All validating baptisms and endowments for this family
are now in the IGI as are most sealing ordinances. Other slg information is
in the G.F.Tate FGSheet for Stephen Longstroth distributed at the 1985 Richards
    Family Reunion.
It is anticipated that it will be microfilmed as
part of the Ancestral File diskette submission.
Another primary source is STEPHEN LONGSTROTH AND HIS FATHERS, G.F.Tate 1979/80,
    FHL 1033523 Item 5
This document of about 80 pages comprises
a collection of information and documents pertaining to Stephen Longstroth
(1789) his children and ancestors, a biography of Stephen and Ann by Leo W.
Goates (amended), a biography of their daughter, Nanny (amended) and a valuable
collection of recently discovered letters from Stephen and Ann to relatives in
    England (1838-1854).
Some early Family Group Sheets showed a George Robinson Longstroth as a member
of this family. There were actually two of them - but sons of Stephen's
brother, Thomas (1824-1827 and 1828-1833). Both died in infancy.
LANGSTROTH is the spelling used in many English Records for this family.
However, LONGSTROTH is the accepted spelling used in America and on LDS
    records.

Stephen married Gill, Ann 3 Jun 1815, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.. Ann was born 3 Aug 1795, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; was christened 8 Aug 1795, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; died 27 Jan 1878, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; was buried 29 Jan 1878, City Cem., Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. [Group Sheet]

  2. 3.  Gill, Ann was born 3 Aug 1795, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; was christened 8 Aug 1795, Arncliffe, Yorkshire, Eng.; died 27 Jan 1878, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah; was buried 29 Jan 1878, City Cem., Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.

    Notes:

Some FGSheets show Ann's LDS baptism as 4 Mar l838, the same as her husband's,
This was removed from the IGI as there was evidence that she was baptized later
in the year, after Willard Richards returned from Bedford (p 201 and 203 of
INTIMATE DISCIPLE). We retained the 1838 year date for historical reasons but
the proxy baptism for her on 8 Oct 1918 is the one considered valid for LDS
purposes. (Ref G.F.Tate letter l6 Nov 1981 to H.E.Christiansen, Temple
Ordinance Coordinator, and his reply on 18 Dec 1981 - G.F.Tate, Gill records.
With reference to Ann's endowment, she (and her daughter Nanny) were among
those who received her W&A in the NV Temple on 24 Jan 1846 but for whom there
was no record of going through the veil. For that reason the 10 Jun 1921
proxy record was accepted as valid as was her sealing to parents 30 Apr 1969LG.
(Same correspondence record as for bapt. Info was entered into the 1984 IGI).
(But there are earlier slgs to parets including 16 Aug 1907SL).
